Repeat burglary raises security fears in Enterprise

An Enterprise Backlands resident is calling for increased police presence in the area after her home was burglarised for the second time in less than a year, leaving her traumatised and frustrated.
Amena Elliot said she left her home at about 8:45 a.m. on Monday to take her child to Bible School in Buxton, East Coast Demerara. While leaving the area, she noticed a man riding a bicycle whom she believed looked familiar.
When she returned home at about 2:00 p.m., Elliot discovered that the garage/storeroom door had been damaged. Further checks revealed that her generator was missing.
Her son subsequently noticed that a side window had been broken, with both the glass and security grill damaged. The family believes the window was used as the point of entry.
Inside the house, Elliot found her bedroom ransacked and discovered that her laptop, her children’s tablets, cash and other valuables were missing.
Elliot said the developing housing scheme presents additional security challenges, as the area does not yet have electricity or a running water supply, making it difficult for residents to install surveillance systems. She also said building materials, including sand and stone, have reportedly been stolen from the area.
The resident, who is a student of the Cyril Potter College of Education, said she is particularly distressed because she experienced a similar break-in last October.
Elliot said she believes the man she noticed on Monday resembled the person she had previously seen in connection with the earlier incident.
A police report was made, and she said she was informed that a suspect reportedly resides in Bareroot, East Coast Demerara, where she alleges stolen items are being stored and sold.
Elliot is now appealing for increased police patrols and a stronger security presence in Enterprise Backlands as more residents move into the developing community.
The terrified woman is asking that any information that may lead to the recovery of her stolen belongings would be greatly appreciated. Persons with information are encouraged to contact the relevant authorities.
Elliot told BIG Smith News Watch that a police investigation is ongoing and that she is cooperating with investigators.
