Police Seize Unlicensed Firearms

Police in Regional Division 4A conducted a successful raid on September 16, targeting several areas around Georgetown.
The operation, which ran from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM, led to the arrest of a wanted murder suspect, a serial armed robbery suspect, and the seizure of an illegal firearm.
During the raid, police searched multiple areas, including Independence Boulevard, North Ruimveldt, Guyhoc Park, Albouystown, and Kitty.
The operation also extended to Stevedore Housing Scheme, D’Urban Backlands, and various parts of Sophia.
Nicholas Singh, alias “Pookie,” a 25-year-old from Durban Street, was arrested for the murder of Natram Persaud, which occurred on December 31, 2023, in Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara. Another suspect, Rondell Vanrossum, 45, from Lodge, was apprehended with an unlicensed Glock 9MM pistol and ten rounds of ammunition.
Julian Aaron, 51, from East Ruimveldt, was arrested for possession of ammunition, while Lorenzo Heywood, 20, from Coldingen, was taken into custody for his involvement in several armed robberies.
The operation was led by D/ASP Sarrabo, D/ASP Bacon, and ASP Khan, along with a team of police officers.
In a separate incident on the same day, police responding to a break-and-enter report in Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, discovered a loaded .38 revolver.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities encountered Bertrand Walks, a 36-year-old gold miner, and Oziah Vanrossum, a 20-year-old construction worker.
During a search of the premises, the firearm was found in the bathroom.
Vanrossum admitted ownership of the weapon, and both men were arrested and remain in police custody.
