BREAKING: Magistrate’s son hit by stray bullet during police hot pursuit

27-Year-Old Cassell Nurse, a businessman and the son of Magistrate Clive Nurse was shot during a hot pursuit between the police and two suspects on a motorcycle.
The incident took place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, on Robb Street in the vicinity of Red Dragon in Georgetown, Nurse, was a bystander at the time he was shot. He was then rushed for medical attention.
Police sources indicated that a bullet struck the young man in his foot and a warhead has since been located lodged inside of him, his injuries are not suspected to be life-threatening. Both the police and the men on motorcycles were exchanging bullets.
According to information reaching BIG Smith News Watch, the Command Center which monitors the CCTV Cameras around the city, saw the men riding and acting suspiciously and police patrols in the area were alerted.
The chase between the police and the suspects went through several city streets before it ended up on Robb Street where Nurse was hit. The motorcycle bandits eventually escaped.
The Guyana Police Force has standing procedures against conducting hot pursuits because of the dangers associated with such practice and the potential to cause harm or loss of life to innocent bystanders and other road users.
On October 05, 2012, the police shot and killed 21-year-old Dameon Belgrave who was hit by a stray bullet from an AK-47 rifle as he and friends were celebrating a birthday outing at the White Castle Fish shop on Hadfield Street. The police at the time were conducting a hot pursuit of some suspects in a car.
The suspects eventually managed to escape and Belgrave lay dead in a pool of blood. In that incident, his mother Donna Sulker sued the state and won a judgment of more than $20 million along with other awards and costs.
