22 civilians graduate in Cosmetology Course paid for by the police

The graduating class strikes a pose on Saturday 

As the Guyana Police Force pushes ahead with its youth initiatives and efforts to build better relations between the public and the police, the force has also been going into its coffers to aid the process.

On Saturday, 22 civilians including two males, graduated from a Cosmetology Course paid for by the GPF and facilitated by Kevin’s Reflections Salon/ SPA School of Cosmetology and barbering.

Community Relations Department Head of the GPF, Superintendent Cristal Robinson in addressing the graduates, reminded that preventative policing strategies and problem- solving techniques utilising community participating, proactive and reactive law enforcement are among the objectives her office executes.

These are aimed primarily to building police/public  partnerships in a manner that is collaborative, professional and brings forth positive engagements with trust between the two sides.

At the graduating ceremony, proprietor of Kevin’s Reflection…Kevin John regarded the initiative taken by the police as supporting the enrichment of communities and that the collaboration with the police is viewed as his company honouring its social responsibility.

The course began on May 16, 2022 and ran for a period of six weeks.

Barbering, General Cosmetology, Nail Technician, and Massage Therapy were the areas the young people received theoretical and practical training in.

Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Calvin Brutus, spoke to the commitment and participation of the graduating team and regarded it as a win for both the force and the individuals.

The work of the CRD Brutus noted, is to assist youths, young adults, and persons who are interested in developing themselves and by extension the country.

Deputy Commissioner Brutus told the graduates that what they took part in was just part and parcel of a bigger programme to be rolled out by the force.

Technology programmes and CXC courses are among other courses the force will be rolling out for civilian members of the public.

Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine was among other members of the present on Saturday.
