SOCU under pressure after shooting blanks in Brutus probe

Operatives at the Special Organized Crime Unit are having sleepless nights trying to build a criminal case against Deputy Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus as their backs are now against the wall.
Persons close to the investigations are now concerned that what first appeared to be a genuine case of criminal and improper acts by Brutus is now turning out to be a charade by the Special Organised Crime Unit.
“Although we look into those documents which were leaked, while we thought we had him, it turned out that the man did not commit any crime and that is where we are at the moment, nothing is coming up,” an operative of SOCU told BIG Smith News Watch late Monday night.
Both Brutus and his wife’s bank accounts and assets were examined but thus far has been unable to to do two things, link the funds to anything illegal and we have not found anything solid to question the acquisition of the assets. ‘Yes there are funds in those accounts but the source of the funds is legitimate, the wife has a business and the business was making a profit” the source indicated.
SOCU has now doubled back and circled back to areas it walked before by re-inviting persons previously questioned about the probe. Some have been asked to provide further statements and others were cross-examined, BIG Smith News Watch was told.
Many persons re-invited to give further statements and be cross-examined are junior police ranks who are now feeling pressured by SOCU to implicate Brutus.
Some of those being questioned including civilians have been threatened with detention for 72 hours and beyond if they fail to cooperate with the SOCU agents. Already a businessman who was pulled in for questioning was held for 72 hours and when that expired, SOCU mysteriously kept the man for an additional 6 days.
The man had provided the Guyana Police Force with services and he was initially sent to the Guyana Police Force by a sitting government minister.
Another supplier who charged the Guyana Police Force for $62 Million for fish she provided, was sent to the Guyana Police Force by another government Minister who instructed that the force begin taking fish from her.
Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn had boldly stated at a police event some weeks ago, that there were breaches within the Guyana Police Force Procurement process.
SOCU is now accused of monitoring the calls and movements of several persons they have pulled in for questioning about the Calvin Brutus Investigation.
The Special Organized Crime Unit is a semi-autonomous Agency that has the powers to act on its own and outside of the control of the Guyana Police Force and can do several things including applying to the court for orders to be granted such as freezing assets among others.
