Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, recently participated in the Latin America and the Caribbean Sector Ministers’ Dialogue, hosted at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Headquarters. The dialogue, co-hosted by Sanitation and Water for All (SWA), UNICEF, and the IDB, centered on water, sanitation, and hygiene, aiming to achieve universal access and mobilize new resources, national financing strategies, and public policies to drive momentum in the region.

In session three, themed “Sustainable Financing Solutions in the Context of Climate Change,” Minister Croal reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to funding climate-resilient potable water infrastructure. Over the past three years, approximately $24 billion has been allocated for this purpose. These investments encompass drilling deeper wells in hinterland and riverine areas, installing photovoltaic systems, and enhancing water quality and distribution networks along the coastland.

Minister Croal emphasized the significance of climate finance in achieving low-carbon goals and highlighted Guyana’s expanded Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS). The forum featured presentations from country representatives of Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, Brazil, as well as representatives from the hosting organizations and other key stakeholders.
