Terrified employees flee into the building while at least one vehicle was damaged as a gunman opened fire on the Nationwide News Network 90 FM Radio in Jamaica Friday afternoon.

A gunman on a motorcycle fired several rounds at the media entity’s building, located in Bradley Avenue, Jamaica, our sources out of Jamaica have confirmed.

A report posted on the company’s website stated that at least four bullets struck a vehicle closest to the gate. Three bullet holes were visible on the rear passenger door, while the front passenger window was shattered.

“Members of staff of Nationwide are shaken by the attack, with several crying inconsolably,” the statement said.

A senior employee told BIG Smith News Watch that  security footage revealed that the shooter was dressed in black and wore a yellow helmet.

The official said that police recovered three 9mm spent shells from the scene.

The Government of Jamaica condemned the attack, noting that the shooting affects all media.

“The Government restates it commitment to a free press, which should not be intimidated in any way.”

The Press Association of Jamaica said that “it condemns in the strongest possible terms the reprehensible and cowardly attack on the offices of the National News Network.

According to a senior official of Nationwide 90 FM Radio the attack came at a time when the  Opposition party, the People’s National Party (PNP) branded the station as “an incubator for the governing Jamaica Labour Party.”

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is continuing its investigations.
