The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CPHA) through the Ministry of Housing facilitated the training for persons from Leopold Street, Georgetown, to participate in a concrete block-making training exercise in the area yesterday.

This was don’t throught the CPHA’s Community-based Employment Stimulation Project (CESP).

The aim of the programme is to enhance the skillset and employment opportunities of residents, especially youths in vulnerable communities and/or persons who are a part of vulnerable groups.

The training session was led by Deputy Director of Community Development, Mrs. Donell Bess-Bascom and Projects Engineer, Mr. Esan Barry.

The training began with a brief theoretical session, in which the importance of quality assurance was emphasized and standard techniques were imparted to participants. Practical demonstrations were also done on-site.

As part of the start-up support fifty-six (56) sacks of cement and two (2) loads of sand, wheelbarrows, spades, buckets, 4-inch and 6-inch molds and protective gear such as gloves and long boots are being provided. Blocks produced will be used to supply contractors building homes through the Ministry’s housing programme, as long as they meet the necessary standards.

Additionally, the government will also give the residents the opportunity to construct housing units under the national housing programme.

This is in keeping with a commitment made by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali to the community.

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal and Chief Executive Officer of CHPA, Mr. Sherwyn Greaves also met with residents last Tuesday on the project. Since the launch of CESP in 2021, CHPA has aided training and start-up support for a group in Mocha, East Bank Demerara, the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (GCOPD) and Ruimveldt Parent Support Group.
