Aaliya Moore seeks a ‘Moore Gold Season’ at NCAA big 12 Championship

21-year-old Guyanese Track and Field Athlete Aaliya Moore who hails from Tucville, Georgetown Guyana is hoping to keep the momentum up at the ongoing NCAA 800 meters indoor tournament where she is now on record as the only Guyana to have won at the tournament to date.

In a virtual interview Tuesday afternoon, Moore said the road to her achievement was not easy and it was a victory that could not have been predicted given the turmoil, hard work, sacrifices, and dedication that were among the characteristics leading up to the actual tournament.

The NCAA Athletic Championship is one where the best prospects from across the world converge in a bid to achieve recognition personally and on behalf of their home country.

In her interview with BIG Smith News Watch, Moore said making it to Kansas saw more tears than smiles but that the sacrifice was worth it.

It was also during her interview that spoke of the very limited support domestically by the relevant agencies and others.

Questioned, she said the Olympics Association of Guyana failed to even issue a congratulatory message on her achievement, more than 24 hours after the games.

She nevertheless offered many thanks to her family members who have been supporting her from day one as well as some of her colleagues.

The young athlete credited her achievement to her coach for the mentorship she received.

‘’Back home in Guyana I wish that more support can be given to our local athletes that’s all we need at times, the support and we can achieve all there is to achieve’’ Aaliyah Moore noted.
