The Government of Guyana and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday signed a new memorandum of Understanding aimed at fostering a better partnership between the two countries.  The new MOU will allow for the provision of governance support between the two countries.

The MOU on ‘Cooperation in the field of Governance, Development and Modernization’ was signed on Guyana’s behalf by the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar. The signing took place in the United Arab Emirates.

The Big Smith News Watch understands that the MOU will play a key role in strengthening institutional capacity. The MOU will also seek to enhance governance by mutually developing government practices, building institutional capabilities among other areas of cooperation. The MOU is set to run for three years unless terminated.

The bilateral relationship between the two countries over the past years have deepened. The United Arab Emirates was able to transform itself into a global leader using its oil resources. Similarly to the UAE, Guyana has now joined a list of global oil producers.
