Fight over glass door earns man attempted murder charge

Tishawn McKenzie making his way into the court lockups to be escorted to prison

A fight between two men over a stolen glass door landed one of them in the court facing an attempted murder charge. The other is said to be hospitalised in a serious condition.

Tishawn McKenzie appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, on Wednesday where the indictable charge was read to him.

The court heard that on January 19, Tishawn wounded Robert Samaroo with intent to commit murder. It was related that on the day in question, Samaroo was at home when Mckenzie went to uplift a sliding glass door that Mckenzie, reportedly stole from his grandmother and gave Samaroo to keep.

Somewhere along the line, the men began arguing and at that point, McKenzie armed himself with a piece of wood and dealt Samaroo several lashes to his head and about his body before making good his escape.

The police became involved, investigated the matter and Mckenzie was arrested. On Wednesday, the police prosecutor objected to bail being granted to McKenzie on the grounds that he is a repeat offender and the serious nature of the charge.

The accused was denied bail and remanded to jail until next Tuesday.
