A 53-year-old woman was on Wednesday remanded to prison for allegedly stabbing her neighbour with a pitchfork. Denise Hilliman of Lamaha Park Squatting Area, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Hilliman was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 11, 2021, at Lamaha Park, Squatting Area, with intent to commit murder, she inflicted grievous bodily harm to Otoley Whyte.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that Hilliman and Whyte are known to each other. On the day in question, about 17:30 hrs, Whyte’s brother and Hilliman’s sons were involved in a gambling game which later led to a fight.

During the ordeal, Whyte went to the aid of her brother. As a result, Hilliman, who was several feet away, armed herself with a pitchfork and dealt Whyte a stab to her chest. The injured woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted.

Whyte remains hospitalized in a serious condition.
