19-Year-Old Excavator Operator Dies at Kara Kara

Authorities are investigating the death of 19-year-old excavator operator Ezekiel Benjamin, who tragically lost his life in an incident at Kara Kara, Mackenzie, Linden on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, around 11:50 am.
According to a police report, Benjamin, employed by Dindyal Sookram of D. Sookram & Daughters General Contractor, was tasked with operating an excavator to dig a drainage channel on the northeast Kara Kara land, intended to alleviate water accumulation by channeling it toward the Kara Kara Creek.
While performing his duties, the excavator reportedly began to sink into the swampy terrain. The machine became fully submerged, trapping Benjamin inside the cabin.
The discovery was made by operators from BOSAI, another company operating in the area, who raised the alarm upon spotting the submerged equipment. Employees from BOSAI promptly intervened, breaking the excavator’s cabin window to recover Benjamin’s body.
Crime scene investigators examined the body at the scene, finding no visible signs of violence on the most exposed areas.
The body was subsequently taken to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff.
The deceased’s remains have been transported to the G-Jetsco Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.
The police are continuing to collect statements and conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
