Police in Regional Division Ten are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a teenager earlier today on Mines Road, Kwakwani, Upper Berbice River.

The accident occurred at about 11:35 hrs and involved motor lorry #GAD 5603 with trailer #TZZ 9525, driven by 26-year-old Teyon Rogers of Kwakwani, and motor car #PPP 449, driven by 17-year-old Adrian Welch of Kwakwani Park.

Investigations revealed that the lorry was heading west along the southern side of Mines Road when Welch, who was driving east along the northern side, collided with the vehicle’s rear wheel.

The impact left both vehicles damaged and caused the car to veer onto the northern parapet. Welch was pulled from the wreck by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Kwakwani Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Thomas.

The lorry driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
