𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬

Approximately 30 households received the $250,000 Laing Avenue Housing Grant on Tuesday to purchase building materials for repairing their homes.

The vouchers were distributed at St. Pius Primary School in Georgetown by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, along with Mr. Sherwyn Greaves, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), and Mrs. Donell Bess-Bascom, CH&PA’s Deputy Director of Community Development.

This distribution follows an earlier allocation to sixty families in late January 2024, aligning with Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo’s commitment in November to improve living standards.

Minister Croal emphasized that these grants are part of the government’s efforts to promote homeownership, alongside initiatives like the Steel and Cement Housing Subsidy vouchers and the home construction program.

The CEO highlighted the positive impact of the program on residents’ lives and its potential as a model for future national housing initiatives. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the transformative vouchers, recognizing them as a valuable initiative. “I think it’s a good initiative and I think everybody should be able to capitalize on it, all those in need,” said one beneficiary, Mr. Renwick McDonald. He plans to use the grant for ceiling and floor repairs to prevent water seepage during rain.

Ms. Sandra Primo, who faces mobility challenges due to a hip injury, expressed gratitude for the assistance. She intends to use the grant to upgrade her sanitary facilities, as she currently relies on an outdoor toilet. Ms. Primo noted that this upgrade would also benefit her son and grandchild residing with her.
