Vincent Shelto reopens store/makeup studio five months after devastating fire

The Sharon’s Mall located at King and Charlotte Streets, Georgetown went up in flames in April 2021, plunging several business owners into a state of despair; one of those persons was popular makeup artist, Vincent Shelto.

Originally from Mathew’s Ridge, Region One, Shelto opened his store at the Mall just three years before the devastating fire. Makeup has been his love for most of his life and losing his products –some which were new additions to the store –was a major setback. However, with perseverance and a good support system, he was not ready to give up on his career.

“It was hard, it was very rough because I never had an experience like that before and after I lost everything, I had to start completely over again. It was rough because I couldn’t work for four to five months,” he said.

But known to be someone who looks for the silver lining in every situation, the 26-year-old was able to draw strength from his close circle to jump back into the game.

“I am thankful for my family and my friends and everybody who supported me to get here with my new store,” he told the Big Smith News Watch.

Shelto opened his new store –The Masterpiece – at 58 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown recently, with a promise of new and improved products. His advice to anyone going through a tough time is to “have hope and know nothing is impossible.”

Being a male makeup artist has led to several instances of discrimination as well, but he is encouraging others like himself to look at things differently. He said, “when you be yourself, you find a lot of life is going to be easier for you when you live your truth so Love yourself and be yourself and be good for you.”
