28 Remanded to Prison Over City Violence and Rioting

April 30 2025- Twenty-eight men have been remanded to prison following a series of violent incidents in Georgetown.

The men appeared in court on Wednesday April 30, 2025, where they were charged with multiple offences under the Criminal Law Offences Act, including robbery, looting, arson, and destruction of public and private property.

The alleged acts took place primarily in Georgetown between Monday and Tuesday.

Following their court appearance, the accused were transported in four prison vans to the Lusignan Prison. They are expected to return to court on May 18, 2025.

The unrest is believed to have been triggered by the release of the autopsy results related to the death of Adrianna Younge, whose body was found in a swimming pool at the Double Day Hotel last week.

The circumstances surrounding her death have raised widespread concern and calls for accountability, fueling protests that escalated into rioting.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing and more charges may follow.
