Success Elementary student tops NGSA

The highest score at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) was 524 which was copped by Nirvana Vimal of the Success Elementary School, earning her a place at Queen’s College. The highest attainable score this year was 527.

Two students –Deja Datt of the New Guyana School and Paris Timmerman of Chateau Margot Primary –tied for second place with 523 marks. They were followed by Jada Persaud who achieved 522 marks.

Notably, there were six candidates who attained 521 marks; those were Shabaka Yisrael of Success Elementary, Aditi Joshi of Mae’s Under 12, Khevin Sandy of Lowe’s Academy, Chelsea Persaud of Dharmic Rama Krishna, J’kell Whyte of Success Elementary and Joshua Mc Arthur of Vryheid’s Lust Primary.

Seven students also attained 520 marks, 12 attained 519 marks and six attained 518 marks.

According to the Ministry of Education, 13,821 candidates wrote this year’s NGSA.

In her address during the live release of the results on Friday, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand urged students to continue doing well. For those who did not make it into the country’s top 100 performers, she urged students to make the most of their school years ahead. She said “this is the start of a new chapter. Wipe the slate clean. If you’re not happy with how you perform, here is your chance to do all you want to do in High School and I ask you for it not for it to be just an academic experience, enjoy the journey.”

The NGSA results are available online from 13:00 h. Parents and students are advised to log onto the following website: http://exams.moeguyana.org. The candidates’ timetable will provide the necessary information to access these results.
