‘Corridor of Hope’ is an initiative aimed at brining communities together through sport. President Irfaan Ali has announced it as a pilot project aimed at uniting villages along the East Coast Demerara. It will be be rolled out through Republic Unity Cup Cricket Match.

He said that the communities identified will be playing not only for monetary prizes but a special project will be identified for the community where the winning team hails from. The teams are each expected to play matches in their rival team’s home village.

President Ali said the decision to use the East Coast of Demerara as the pilot project comes from historic background of the villages that line that corridor. President Irfaan Ali moments ago rolled into the community of Buxton located on the East Coast corridor.

The President who earlier visited the village of Lusignan and will be making stops along other villages along the East Coast, is accompanied on his visit by Sport Minister Charles Ramson, Housing Minister Susan Rodrigues, Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall.

The villages of Lusignan, Buxton, Enterprise and Golden Grove are among the villages which will form part of the pilot project. President Ali said while the initiative will start with a cricket match, several other sporting disciplines will also be catered for including volleyball, basketball and football
