-‘Breast cancer is a killer, but it doesn’t have to be’, Dr. Ramsammy says

Representatives of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) in collaboration with Impressions brand revealed their ‘HOPE’ banner at the Kingston seawalls on Friday.

This initiative was launched in commemoration of breast cancer awareness month and seeks to allow persons to pen encouraging messages in an effort to sensitize the nation on breast cancer.

Speaking today at the simple ceremony, adviser to the Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy expressed thanks to the two organizations for their exceptional work in bringing to the forefront the fight against breast cancer.

In his brief remarks to the small audience gathered at the site, Dr. Ramsammy highlighted that there more than 700 cases of cancer documented in Guyana.

Of these 700 reported cases, about 23% are breast cancer reports. Dr. Ramsammy also noted that breast cancer stands as the number one most frequent type of cancer in the country.

This, he says, is what makes it extremely important for the fights against the disease to be made a national concern.

Impressions Manager Debbie Persaud expressed the company’s gratitude to GBTI for partnering with them in raising this awareness for breast cancer.
