The Commonwealth Secretariat has endorsed the Global Biodiversity Alliance following high-level discussions today between His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Priya Manickchand, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

A major outcome of the engagement was an agreement to collaborate on strategic initiatives supporting the Global Biodiversity Alliance. Central to this partnership is the establishment of a Joint Working Team to advance plans for an International Biodiversity Centre of Excellence, which is proposed to be based in Guyana.

The initiative is expected to strengthen global biodiversity research, conservation, and policy coordination, while positioning Guyana as a leading hub for biodiversity excellence.
