January 27, 2026
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Vidhya Persaud said that all claims of sexual harassment need to be treated with the seriousness of the incident. She was at the time speaking during an invited comment at Parliament on Monday night.
The minister was asked to comment on the cases of sexual exploitation and harassment, which the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered an investigation into, after video and claims surfaced that the practice is taking place at the Guyana Police Force Academy.
Minister Persaud said she is confident that the Home Affairs Minister is well placed to address the matter.
“I have no doubt that she will do the necessary investigations to ensure that, whatever is the incident or issue at hand, justice will be served and those who are responsible for any cases or instances of sexual misconduct; they will be held accountable”. Persaud told BIG Smith News Watch.
According to the minister, the government’s position and posture when dealing with matters of sexual offences are clear.
“There is a draft sexual harassment bill, so there is seriousness in our intention as government to treat with all of these cases and matter and we treat each case with the seriousness that it deserves,” she further stated.
