Speed Cameras and Radar Signs Go Live on Demerara River Bridge This Weekend

Motorists using the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge are being advised that new speed cameras and radar speed signs will become operational starting this weekend, December 13, 2025.

The National Data Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force (GPF), confirmed today that the devices form part of the ongoing rollout of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), the Government’s automated speed-ticketing initiative introduced earlier this year.

According to officials, the radar-enabled cameras will monitor vehicle speeds in real time and automatically record violations. Radar speed signs have also been installed as a traffic-calming measure to alert drivers of their speed and encourage compliance with posted limits.

Once a vehicle exceeds the designated speed limit, the SRIS system will automatically generate a ticket. Motorists whose contact details are registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) will receive notifications via SMS or email, while others will have physical tickets delivered to the registered owner’s address.

Drivers are also encouraged to check for issued tickets using the GPF’s official online portal, “Find My Ticket,” accessible at https://speed.gpf.gov.gy

.

Authorities say the inclusion of the Demerara River Bridge under SRIS coverage underscores the Government’s commitment to improving road safety through data-driven technology. Motorists are urged to observe speed limits, remain attentive to radar signage, and cooperate with efforts aimed at making Guyana’s roadways safer and more efficient.
