Newly crowned under-17 girl’s 800 metres gold medalist at the CARIFTA Games, Olivia Solomon articulated her joy after her big win but also opined that her gold medal run could have been better.
“It felt good, honestly I wanted to get the record, there were some mistakes I made but I am excited for the rest of the season, I am excited to represent my family and Guyana,” Solomon stated.
Meanwhile, Solomon also broke down her thinking and race plan that captured her first gold medal at the games.
“The goal was to get out and be in first and i saw Annalissa was kicking out too and I didn’t want to kill myself in the first 100m so I think going into other races I should be more confident and I need to know my abilities and know that I could get out and run that first 200 and 400 metres fast,” Solomon shared.
Solomon clocked 2:10.76s to win gold in the girl’s under-17 800 metres in Grenada on Monday afternoon. The team is expected to arrive in Guyana later this evening.
