A G$300,000 first prize awaits the winners of the inaugural Neville Sarjoo Memorial Over-50 T20 tournament, which starts on October 10.
Two teams each from Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo will compete in a round-robin stage, with four advancing to the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for November 14 at the Joe Jagmohan ground in Hampton Court Village, Essequibo Coast.
Runners-up will receive $150,000 and a trophy. The final’s most valuable player will earn $50,000 and a trophy, while each match will carry awards for its best batsman and bowler.
At the Bourda launch, former Guyana batsman Rohan Sarjoo outlined plans to continue the competition annually for the next five years. Teams will pay no entry fee, and he will supply the white balls.
The tournament honours his father, Neville Sarjoo, a former East Bank Cricket Association president who also served the Guyana Cricket Board as an administrator and selector.
