Robbery accused: Dennis Johnson

A 25-year-old shopkeeper who is accused of robbing a taxi driver of his vehicle and other valuables was on Monday remanded to prison. Dennis Johnson of 3505 Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus.

Johnson denied the charge which stated that on May 20, 2021, at Caneview Avenue, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, he robbed Ulric Da Silva of one motor car HC 8838 valued at $3,600,000,00, a cellular phone valued at $4,000, and $4,000 cash.

Johnson’s left leg is amputated.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Da Silva was at home when Johnson hired him to go to South Ruimveldt. The court heard that the accused pulled out a knife on arrival at the destination and placed it on the taxi driver’s neck.

With the help of his accomplices, Johnson relived the taxi driver of the motorcar and other valuables. The matter was then reported to the police and the vehicle was later recovered.

On June 4, last, Da Silva went to the Brickdam Police Station to enquire about another matter when he saw Johnson in custody and pointed him out as the person who robbed him.

The court prosecutor objected to bail being granted to Johnson on the ground that he was previously charged with possession of an illegal firearm and robbery. Johnson, on the other hand, told the court that he was not identified by Da Silva.

The Magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s submissions and remanded the robbery accused to prison.
