The Government of Guyana today convened a high-level regional development meeting with the administration of Barima-Waini (Region One) to review several stalled and overdue projects.

The session was led by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development,  Priya Manickchand, who stressed the need for timely project delivery, pointing out that delays have a direct impact on the well-being and opportunities available to residents in hinterland communities.

She was joined by Housing Minister Collin Croal and Amerindian Affairs Minister Sarah Browne-Shadeek, both of whom shared their perspectives on addressing infrastructural gaps, strengthening community services, and advancing housing and social development programmes tailored to the needs of Region One.

Also participating were Director General within the Ministry, Honourable Anand Persaud, and Permanent Secretary Miguel Choo-Kang, who offered administrative and technical guidance on the path forward.

Officials noted that the meeting forms part of the government’s broader push to ensure accountability and to deliver on commitments made to citizens across both hinterland and coastal regions.
