The Police in Region 5 have taken one of their own into custody while another member of the force remains a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital for a gunshot wound to her neck.

On Thursday evening, police constable Shonnetta James 31, was at home with her twin girls when their father, police Sergeant Colin Whyte showd up at the home they once shared and open fire on her.

The woman was struck to her neck and fell to the ground. At that point Whyte picked her up, dropped her off at the entrance to Fortwellington Hospital and then went about his business.

He was subsequently arrested and told of his offence which he denied and was placed under close arrest.

Police sources indicated that the woman constable is attached to the Special Constabulary and was assigned duties at the GPL Onverwagt location, West Coast Berbice.

Whyte on the other hand, is said to be the Subordinate office incharge of the Blairmont Police Station.

We were told that recently, James asked whyte to move on and move on with his life because she realised that they were having too many frequent arguments and misunderstandings.

They have been seeing each other for years and are both parents of a pair of twin girls whose ages were given as 2 years old.
