Police constable in custody for the murder of Cuban national

The investigation into the disappearance of a Cuban national has now been upgraded to a murder probe following the discovery of her body along the East Coast Demerara.
Dailen Paneque Gómez, 26, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was reported missing after she was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, while reportedly on her way to work.
According to the Guyana Police Force, detectives attached to CID Headquarters conducted sustained investigative work which led to the discovery of her body in a decomposed state at about 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, in a clump of bushes on the East Coast Demerara.
Police have since confirmed that the case is now being treated as a murder investigation.
A Police Constable has been arrested and remains in custody assisting investigators with the probe.
Investigations are continuing, and police say further information will be released as it becomes available.
