Pensioner killed in accident at Industry ECD

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 69-year-old pedestrian on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, along the northern carriageway of Industry Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
The incident involved a motorcycle travelling east along the roadway with a 29-year-old male rider and a 28-year-old female pillion rider, and pedestrian Anjanie Mohabir of Block 8 Mon Repos. At the time, traffic along the carriageway had come to a stop to allow the pedestrian to cross when the motorcycle, reportedly travelling on the pedestrian walkway, collided with her.
All three individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical treatment. Mohabir later succumbed to her injuries while receiving care. The pillion rider was admitted for observation, while the motorcyclist was treated and subsequently discharged.
The motorcycle has been taken off the road as the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident continue to be examined.
