Parts of Mahdia under water

A section of lower Mahdia under water

Several Parts of Mahdia, Region 8 is currently under water following intense and consistent rainfall which lasted approximately 12 hours between Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

BIG Smith News Watch has been told that two main bridges which provide access to Lower Mahdia and the airstrip are said to be under distress. The water level is said to be at approximately three feet high accompanied by high currents.

Micobie, Lower Potaro River El Paso, Tumatumari, and Lower Potaro Mahdia are said to be among the areas affected by the flood.

Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill on Tuesday morning confirmed that there is some level of flooding in the Region.

Our source in the region reported that the flooding is taking place along the main access road which links the coast to Mahdia and the Region’s airstrip.

With the bridges under distress, we were told also, that vehicles are stranded on both sides of the bridges which are now impassable.
