Nismes to beneft from $1.3B Secondary School

November 8, 2024 — The Ministry of Education launched a transformative project for the La Grange–Nismes district with a sod-turning ceremony for the new Nismes Secondary School yesterday.
Led by Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, this ceremony marks the beginning of a $1.3 billion investment in educational infrastructure aimed at serving 800 students and furthering the government’s mission of expanding access to quality education throughout Guyana.
The project, valued at G$1,336,166,784, underscores the Government of Guyana’s commitment to Universal Secondary Education.
Once completed, the new school will be a significant asset to the region, equipped to foster academic excellence and support the educational needs of the community.
The school’s construction has been carefully planned, with the work divided into five major lots. Lot 1 and Lot 2, awarded to ECS Construction & General Supplies, are valued at G$237,050,110 and G$237,427,608 respectively, and are scheduled for completion in eight months.
JK Enterprise Inc. is responsible for Lot 3, with a contract value of G$392,372,526, also expected to be completed within an eight-month period.
Lot 4, managed by Mason’s Innovative Construction and valued at G$154,448,800, has a shorter timeline of three months.
Finally, R&R General Construction & Supplies will complete Lot 5, valued at G$314,867,740, in eight months.
During her address, Minister Manickchand emphasized the importance of the new facility for the district and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing equal educational opportunities for all children across the country. “Whether you’re from Georgetown, the West Bank, or the deep hinterland, every child must be able to access a secondary education,” she stated.
Minister Manickchand also expressed her gratitude to One Communications for its cooperation in donating a crucial parcel of land for the school. “After negotiations, they’ve generously agreed to donate this land, which will be dedicated to the secondary education of children on the West Bank,” she noted.
Once completed, Nismes Secondary School will be a vital resource, providing a supportive and well-equipped environment to empower students in their educational journeys.
