Seeking to inspire Guyanese to “break free from the burdens of the COVID-19 pandemic,” this year’s Bartica Regatta is on and will be hosted under the theme “Bounce Back.”

During a press conference on Thursday, Head of the Regatta Committee Kenneth Williams said “even though the time is short The Bartica Regatta Committee has decided that the residents of Bartica and the general Guyanese public will not be denied of the event that they love so much.”

This year’s event, the first since 2019, will begin on Monday, April 11, 2022, and will conclude on April 18, 2022, with a week of fun-packed activities.

“Our regatta has always been a rich staple of economic activity that benefits all sectors, and this year, we have had our setbacks and we’re glad that we have this opportunity once again to do better for our people,” Mr. Williams added.

A Gospel Fest promoted by the chosen Generation band will kickstart the week of festivities at the Bartica Tarmac. On April 12, there will be a male football competition beginning at 18:00h followed by a female football competition.

On Saturday, April 16 from 20:00h, there will be a Regatta Road Jam under the theme – BARTICA REUNION, followed by the Regatta Power Boat Races at the Bartica Golden Beach and Racing Circuit on Sunday. To end the day, there will be the Regatta Mega Concert, featuring artistes from around the world – at the Bartica Basketball Tarmac and the week of activities ends on Easter Monday with an all-day Regatta Wash Down at the Bartica Golden Beach.

The Government of Guyana recently relaxed several rules which were in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic including the mandatory wearing of masks and the curfew. With the relaxation of these measures, several events including the Rupununi rodeo have been resuscitated.
