Police are investigating the death of 47-year-old businesswoman Denise Vieira. Vieira was discovered dead in her home in Pepper Hill, Mahdia, the police said on Wednesday.

The dead woman was found by her reputed husband in her home, the police said. A customer had related that reputed husband, who is now being treated as the suspect, related that he discovered the woman on the kitchen floor motionless and appeared to be dead with what appears to be @blood oozing from her mouth, nose and about her face,” the police said in its release.

The police said that Vieira resided in a flat concrete structure and operated a small grocery shop in the said building while her reputed husband, resides in the said yard in a wooden structure separated by a fence.

Based on information, the couple had separated due to an ongoing domestic dispute between them for some months, the deceased decided to build the mentioned concrete structure and live by her herself about three months ago.

The deceased’s neighbour recalled hearing the Vieira saying loudly, “Get out my (expletive) place, leff me alone,” sometime prior.

The police said that based on information given to officers, the suspect left his house and proceeded next door and was hanging with some friends. It was a customer who went to the deceased’s shop to purchase some items, raised an alarm after the deceased was not seen and not responding to calls. The suspect went over and was seen making checks around the yard and in the deceased’s shop.

The police said the man then proceeded into his house via the back door when he made the discovery. The man attempted to revive her by shaking her but she was unresponsive and he put her to lie on her back.

The body of the deceased was examined for marks of violence which were recorded by the police.

The suspect was contacted, told of the allegation, cautioned and he denied. He was arrested and placed into custody, the police said.
