New Well for LBI Housing Scheme

September 24 2024 – Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, has announced significant progress in the drilling of a new well at La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara.
The well is designed to enhance the water supply for thousands of house lots in the expanding LBI housing scheme.
Minister Croal emphasized that the new well will play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for treated water in this rapidly developing residential area.
With a capacity more than sufficient to serve over 2,000 house lots, the well will ensure reliable water delivery to the community.
He noted that construction, equipping, and commissioning of the well are expected to be completed within two months, with full operation beginning shortly after.
While visiting the area today, Minister Croal explained that while the current water system supports the existing housing population, it cannot meet the needs of the expanding scheme, making the new well essential.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s broader goal of improving water access across the region in a timely and efficient manner. Once operational, the well will significantly boost water supply for the LBI scheme, enhancing both access and reliability for residents.
The Minister also highlighted that LBI is poised to become one of the most desirable new housing developments, thanks to the improved amenities. The new well will ease pressure on the existing distribution network, improving overall system performance and meeting the needs of the growing community.
The well is projected to reach a maximum depth of 900 feet and is being drilled by Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services at a cost of $130 million.
