Police ranks on Monday, at approximately 16:00 hrs, intercepted minibus (BVV 9881) and arrested the driver and conductor after finding a bag of suspected marijuana in the vehicle on the Essequibo Coast.

The ranks from Regional Police Division #2 were on mobile patrol duties when they acted on information received and intercepted the minibus on the Charity public road.

The minibus driver (also the vehicle owner) is a 27-year-old from Charity Housing scheme, and the conductor is a 30-year-old from Lima Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast.

The ranks searched the minibus and found a black plastic bag under the conductor’s seat on the floor.
The bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be Cannabis. The driver and conductor were told of the offence committed and cautioned.

They were arrested and escorted to Charity Police Station along with the suspected narcotic, which, when weighed, amounted to 512.5 grams.

The men are presently in custody, assisting the Police with the ongoing investigation.
