Market Vendor Charged with Cocaine Trafficking

January 10, 2025 – Wendez Pompey, a 24-year-old market vendor from Hill Street, Albouystown, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today to face charges of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Pompey pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned until February 21, 2025.

The charges stem from an operation conducted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on January 9, 2025. Acting on information, CANU officers intercepted a Toyota Mini Bus with license plate BAE 7328 on Mittleholzer Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a brick-like parcel containing cocaine, weighing approximately 1.156 kilograms.
Pompey, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested and transported to CANU’s headquarters, along with the seized cocaine.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
