Man who “ended up in woman’s house” jailed 18 months for theft

“I came out from the interior and was drinking alcohol with friends and I ended up in the woman’s house,” were the words of a 26-year-old man who was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.
Charles Rodney appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He admitted that on January 15, 2021, at 237 Pike Street Campbellville, Georgetown, he broke into the dwelling house of Sharron Kissoon and stole items valuing $284,000, property of Kissoon.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the Kissoon went out and on her return home she saw that her front door was open. She entered and upon checking she observed several items missing. A report was made to the station and following investigating, the defendant was arrested and charged with the offense
The Magistrate after listening to the facts sentenced Rodney to 18 months’ behind bars.
In 2019, Rodney was before the courts for breaking into his friend’s home and carting off a bottle of Hennessy, among other articles, valued at more than $300,000.
It was alleged that on March 18, 2019, at St Stephen Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, he broke into the dwelling house of Melissa Richardson and stole an Apple iPod valued at $40,000, a bottle of Hennessey, valued at $14,000, a quantity of gold and silver jewellery, valued $193,000 and $55,000 in cash.
He had denied the allegation.
According to information, Rodney who is known to Richardson was seen by the neighbours leaving the woman’s house with a bottle of Hennessy in his hands. Neighbours confronted him but he ran away. The matter was then reported and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with the offense.
