Mark Lowchee, called “Mark Lee”, who was on trial for the September 2003 murder of Collis De Abreau was Wednesday found not guilty of the crime by a 12-member jury. The former murder accused was on trial for the capital offence before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara. His trial commenced Monday.

Based on reports, on September 21, 2003, there was a misunderstanding between the Lowchee and the owner of the Blue Iguana Nightclub. It is alleged that during the ordeal, Lowchee whipped out a handgun and discharged several shots in the vicinity of the nightclub.

De Abreau formerly of Alberttown, Georgetown, and some other patrons were injured in the aftermath. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Following the killing, Police had issued a wanted bulletin for Lowchee, who was, however, only apprehended in November 2017.

Lowchee was represented by Attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir, while the case for the prosecution was presented by State Counsel Tiffini Lyken.
