Labourer pleads guilty to killing West Bank Berbice ma

The labourer who has been charged with the capital offence of murder has pleaded guilty and has been further remanded to prison to await sentencing which is set for June 27.
Kareem Charles, 40, formerly of Bennett Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), admitted to killing 25-year-old Arshad Ali before Berbice High Court Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall.
Ali, also of Bennett Dam, was on his way to visit his pregnant wife at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, when Charles ran up to him and dealt him a blow to the head with an iron bar.
His wife gave birth hours after he was killed.
A post-mortem examination revealed that the Blairmont Sugar Estate factory worker died from shock and haemorrhaging due to blunt force trauma to his head.
According to reports, the confessed killer had a dispute with one of Ali’s in-laws some time ago. The matter reportedly ended up in the Magistrate’s Court and Charles was jailed.
He was reportedly released from prison a week before he killed Ali, a father of two.
