September 20 2024- Shaima Muna, a 27-year-old radio host and singer from Charlestown, Georgetown, was arrested earlier today (Friday) after being caught with 14,515 grams of marijuana at a police roadblock in Weldaad, West Coast Berbice.

Muna was subsequently charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

She appeared before Magistrate R. Mohabir at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 20th, 2024, where the charge was read to her. Muna pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison pending a probation report, with a hearing set for October 4th, 2024.

According to a police report, Muna was apprehended at approximately 5:47 AM during a “stop and search” operation conducted by Weldaad Police on the public road. Officers stopped a vehicle, registration number PAB 6190, which Muna was driving alone toward Georgetown.

Her nervous behavior and a strong odor of marijuana led officers to search the car, where they discovered two travel bags in the trunk containing parcels of marijuana wrapped in transparent plastic.

Upon weighing, the narcotics totaled 14kg 515 grams. Muna admitted to owning the drugs and explained that she was trying to help pay her mother’s hospital bills. She was arrested and is now in custody awaiting further court proceedings.
