The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is pleased to announce that His Excellency Sasenarine Singh, Guyana’s newly appointed Ambassador to Belgium, has presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency Hubert Roisin, Chief of Protocol of the Federal Public Service – Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry, this significant step moves Ambassador Singh closer to full accreditation as Ambassador and Head of Mission to the Kingdom of Belgium, with the final presentation to His Majesty King Philippe scheduled for September.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Singh highlighted the warm and longstanding relationship between Guyana and Belgium, outlining key areas for bilateral cooperation.

These include climate change mitigation and adaptation, enhancing trade relations, and a shared commitment to world peace and support for the International Court of Justice in addressing issues related to territorial integrity.

Ambassador Singh emphasized Guyana’s status as the world’s fastest-growing economy, presenting significant investment opportunities in various sectors, including agriculture, which could bring prosperity to both nations.

He reiterated Guyana’s dedication to combating drug trafficking and stressed the importance of cooperation with Belgium in this critical area.

In response, His Excellency Hubert Roisin warmly welcomed Ambassador Singh and expressed enthusiasm for the proposed areas of cooperation, many of which align with Belgium’s priorities, such as the climate mitigation action plan.

He highlighted the strategic importance of having a South American partner to bolster trade and investment, particularly in agriculture. Roisin also noted Belgium’s crucial port infrastructure supporting trade in petrochemicals, oil, and gas.

Ambassador Singh conveyed warm greetings from President Dr. Irfaan Ali, the Government, and the people of Guyana, reaffirming a strong commitment to advancing the partnership between Guyana and Belgium.

Both parties expressed eagerness to collaborate on addressing shared challenges and exploiting common opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous future for both countries.
