GBA Secretary, Stacy Correia

Stacy Correia, the Secretary of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), is buzzing with excitement as boxing gyms across the nation prepare for the highly anticipated national championships at the National Gymnasium.

The overwhelming enthusiasm from gyms signals a thrilling era of growth for the sport, showcasing the relentless dedication of both boxers and coaches eager to make their mark on the national stage.

This weekend promises to be electrifying, as Guyana’s elite amateur boxing talent takes center stage for three days of heart-pounding action. As the GBA wraps up its final event of the year, the excitement within the local boxing community is palpable. With weigh-ins kicking off today, the countdown to an explosive showdown on Saturday night has begun!

Adding to the drama, the legendary Sebert Blake, a 3-Star boxing coach, is making a triumphant return! He’s back in the ring to assist the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym in their quest for glory, raising the stakes even higher. Correia emphasizes that Blake’s presence underscores the fierce competitiveness of this tournament and the serious commitment from all participating gyms.

Watch out for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the reigning champions and undisputed titans of local amateur boxing! Correia boldly declares them the team to beat, having dominated with multiple titles under their belt.

Joining the fray are heavyweight contenders like the Guyana Police Force, Andrew ‘Six-Head’ Lewis Boxing Gym, New Amsterdam Boxing Academy, Rose Hall Jammers, Pace and Power Gym, and Harpy Eagles. Their participation is set to create an exhilarating atmosphere, filled with fierce competition across all weight classes.

With the GBA wrapping up a successful year that included a record number of under-16 tournaments, Correia is brimming with anticipation. She expresses heartfelt gratitude to all the gyms for their unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout 2025. Get ready for a championship showdown that will leave fans on the edge of their seats.
