A 33-year-old fisherman has been charged with possession of ammunition without a licence and remanded to prison following his court appearance.

The accused, Mathis Jacobis of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, and Paramakatoi Village in Region Nine, faces charges under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, in relation to four live 12-gauge cartridges.

Jacobis appeared on Friday before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was formally read to him. He pleaded not guilty.

Following his arraignment, the court ordered that he be remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned to July 2, 2026 for continuation.
