Covent Gardent taxi driver fined $150k for DUI

Ameer Husain, a taxi driver from Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, has pleaded guilty to a charge of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol.

 

Husain appeared on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charge was read and he admitted to the offence.

 

He was fined $150,000 GYD and will serve three months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
