CJIA Staff Charged For Cocaine Trafficking

December 6 2024 – Two airport security officers appeared before Magistrate Wonda Fortune at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court, today, on charges related to cocaine trafficking.
The arrests followed a drug bust conducted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Shaquille Thompson, a 28-year-old airport security officer, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of 2.134 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was denied bail and remanded to prison.
The case has been adjourned to January 8, 2025.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Keesha Greene, an aviation security officer, pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of 2.152 kilograms of cocaine for trafficking. She was sentenced to three years in prison and fined GYD$3,228,000.
The arrests stemmed from a routine search conducted by CANU officers at CJIA on December 5. During the operation, officers discovered 2.152 kilograms of cocaine strapped to Greene’s body. She was immediately detained and escorted to CANU’s headquarters for further questioning.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Thompson and the seizure of an additional 2.134 kilograms of cocaine, bringing the total quantity of drugs recovered to 4.286 kilograms.
Both individuals are residents of Lot 5 Grant Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, and were employed at CJIA as security personnel.
CANU has confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing as they seek to uncover additional details surrounding the trafficking operation.
