August 29 2025
Police are probing the brutal murder and robbery of 40-year-old Ryan Fredericks, a boat operator of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, who was savagely attacked inside a hotel room at Safari Inn, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, late Thursday night.
Fredericks had checked into the hotel around 17:45 hrs with a woman, believed to be the prime suspect, after arriving from Parika in the company of fellow boat operator Navindra Kanhai.
The pair booked two rooms — Fredericks and the woman in one, Kanhai in the other.
What followed was a scene of horror. Sometime between 23:00 hrs and 23:30 hrs, Kanhai was startled awake by frantic banging on his door.
Standing there was Fredericks — drenched in blood, clutching a deep gash in his left arm. In a trembling voice, he gasped that he had been “robbed and chopped” before collapsing, leaving behind a trail of blood.
When first responders arrived, they found Fredericks motionless in a pool of his own blood, his body bearing a severe, gaping wound to the inner side of his upper arm.
Emergency Medical Technicians confirmed he had bled to death by 00:55 hrs, his life snatched away in a matter of minutes.
The female suspect had vanished, along with the black motorcar she had arrived in, leaving behind a gruesome crime scene that spoke of betrayal and calculated violence.
Police have since taken Kanhai into custody for questioning as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, Fredericks’ body has been escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
What was meant to be a simple night’s stay at a roadside hotel instead ended in bloodshed and betrayal, leaving Bartica residents stunned at the sheer savagery of the crime.
