At approximately 23:30hrs on Saturday 44 year old Indrawattie Dhanraj of Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne Berbice was beaten and robbed after three men invaded her home while she and her 11 year old son were at home.
“Well the bandits was cussing and one of them seh how me and meh neighbors nah talk what mah holler fa, who gonna come but me and these couples house nah talk so me nah know how them know” She told Big Smith Crime Watch.
The robbery comes less than seventy two hours after two other families along the Corentyne coast had encounters with bandits where one man was beaten.
Instances of robberies along the Corentyne Coast seems to be getting out of control but the police say that crime is not on the increase and just recently, added to its manpower in the division.
Dhanraj said the bandits who invaded her home demanded cash and other valuables which she handed over.
According to the woman, she and her son were in their house when they heard cracking sounds on the zinc sheets of a shed and upon investigating, masked men were seen approaching the window to her room.
“They beak the window and come in and ask where the money and gold, me seh me ain’t get money and gold and them start beat meh and ransacked the house” the woman stated as she related that one carried what appeared to be a shot gun.
Given that they were able to tell her that she and her neighbors do not speak, the woman is of the view that the bandits are from the area and that in itself worries her and her family. She told BIG Smith Crime Watch that she is of the view also that persons in the community might be colluding with criminal elements since according to her, while executing the robbery, one of the bandit reminded her that she does not speak with the neighbors.
As the woman was about to make her way to the police station which is located a street away, the bandits took away her phone. It however happened that she saw a police patrol and she indicated to them that her home had been robbed.
Over the last few days, residents along the Corentyne Coast have been tormented by what appears to be a gang of no less than five persons. The investigations are ongoing.
