Assistant Commissioner Thomas now in-charge of President/ Prime Minister’s security

Assistant Commissioner Edgar Thomas

Assistant Commissioner Edgar Thomas will be moving to head the President Guard later this week. Thomas would be supported by Deputy Superintendent Amit Dass.

Assistant Commissioner Thomas is the officer who was removed from his command post in ‘A’ Division after he refused orders by the force administration to chase the international observers out of the GECOM’s Region 4 Returning Office at High Street in March.

The instructions came after returning officers Clairmont Mingo began calling unverified numbers from a spreadsheet to declare the region four elections results and which was resisted by observers and contesting parties.

At the time the order was passed, Thomas who was on the ground and made an assessment of the situation, decided that given the tense situation at the facility, any movement of the observers and party agents from the building could have escalated.

After his removal, Thomas was sent to a department of the force where the force administration just had him lazing around doing nothing.

Thomas then requested to take annual leave which was due to him and when that was exhausted, he began working from home mostly given the coronavirus and social distancing issues.
