May 22 2025- In the wake of heavy rainfall, which triggered flooding in parts of Johanna and Yakusari, Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, visited Black Bush Polder on Monday to assess the situation and initiate urgent relief efforts.

Accompanied by senior technical officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and representatives from key agencies, Minister Mustapha engaged directly with affected farmers and residents to understand the extent of the impact. Residents raised concerns about waterlogged farmlands and inundated residential areas.

The Minister assured the community that the Ministry will conduct a thorough assessment of the damage incurred and take swift action to provide support. As part of the immediate response, engineers from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) were deployed to the area to implement urgent drainage solutions.

Measures taken include the enhancement of existing pump operations and the activation of additional drainage systems aimed at expediting the removal of floodwaters from both farmlands and residential zones.

The rapid intervention by the NDIA and local authorities has already resulted in a noticeable reduction in floodwaters across the affected communities.
